LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Jackie Chan is not dead. Jackie Chan is the victim of yet another fake death report, this time resurfacing from a Facebook page. The latest fabricated tale claims that Jackie Chan has died this September 2012. Also being falsely reported dead this weekend are John Cena, Tom Kenny the voice of SpongeBob, Lil Wayne, and Morgan Freeman. Earlier this month, LALATE reported news how some fans are bothered by current policies on Facebook that allow users to create RIP pages. The same is the root of the problem striking Jackie Chan today. Since 2009, celebrity fake death reports have surfaced online through different conduits. Whether they are websites, Twitter feeds, comment strikes, or similar, they can prompt confusion and generally anger fans. But in the last two years, upsurge has been seen in one problematic attack, the fake RIP Facebook Page. On Facebook, the company allows any user to create a “page to express support for or interest in a … public figure.” But fans are bothered when the page is falsely reporting a celebrity as dead, in the attempt to tarnish that celebrity’s following. One can argue that the conduct does not support the celebrity and is not an expression of interest for the celebrity.
