LOST IDS: WATCH OUT, BE WARNED; A new but dangerous trend is taking shape. Cornered by the governments directive that all mobile lines be registered, hardcore criminals have stretched their ingenuity to dangerous levels. Some people are selling lost IDS for this purpose for as high as Ksh 3,500. The criminals are using lost National identity cards to register MPESA lines used in crime. The Criminals are liaising with rogue MPESA agents to register their lines for MPESA. Youll be held liable for any crime committed using a line registered under you. You can imagine a line registered by criminals in your name being used to coordinate a WESTGATE-style attack. Some criminals are even dropping lost IDS in scenes of crime, making the owners of the IDS prime suspects. Your lost ID could be used to facilitate serious crimes such as Kidnappings,Terrorism, carjackings, murders, bank robberies etc. Of particular importance, ensure that the loss of your ID is reported immediately to the police to shield yourself,get an abstract in time. Otherwise you might end up a client at Kamiti maximum. Think of a line registered using your ID being used to torment the relatives of a kidnapped child and to demand ransom, youll end up rotting in prison. Imagine a line registered with your ID being used to issue death threats. Many are languishing in prison for crimes they never committed... To be fore-warned is to be fore-armed.
