Ladies and gentlemen, We have been in touch with a leading US GW health researcher whom is in the process of conducting an online study on veterans with Gulf War Illness like symptoms. Initially the study was intended to be for US Veterans however they have decided to allow Australian veteran participation. The study will be collecting data relating to exposures and we have the utmost confidence that this research team will not treat our first hand experiences with the same contempt shown by the DVA contractor who claimed we could not be relied upon (after they sought veteran input for the design of their military experience questionnaire, i.e. they cannot trust what veterans are telling them but will when it suits their needs.....hypocritical much???). The study is specifically looking for input from Veterans who have been actively taking medications, supplements or other steps to relieve GWI symptoms with the aim of gaining a better understanding of treatments that will help veterans. The key criteria for recruitment is that potential participants must have GWI like symptoms. These are described by the US VA (in their presumptive illness legislation) as follows; Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional dyspepsia, and functional abdominal pain syndrome Undiagnosed illnesses with symptoms that may include but are not limited to: abnormal weight loss, fatigue, cardiovascular disease, muscle and joint pain, headache, menstrual disorders, neurological and psychological problems, skin conditions, respiratory disorders, and sleep disturbances. The researchers would like to know what treatments people have tried and whether or not these methods have been successful in providing relief in reducing or eliminating symptoms. You may also need to know the strength and frequency of any such medications or health store supplements taken to assist with symptom relief. The study has ethics approval from the sponsoring institute. The study questionnaire is in the final stages of preparation and is due for release in around 4 or 5 weeks. The study may take between 1 to 3 hours. Wed like to urge anyone who thinks they fit the bill and who may be interested in helping the research team can to please get in touch with us by sending a message via our facebook page. Please include your email address so that we can email you a pamphlet which will provide more information. Cheers DW
