BREAKING NEWS: The Queensland Government has just backed down on allowing mining to occur on the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve on Cape York Peninsula! The Wenlock River, an ecologically-significant wild river on Cape York, runs through the middle of the reserve. The proposed bauxite strip-mine would have destroyed the pristine natural values of the river while decimating thousands of hectares of forests and vital habitat for native wildlife.
