Last Wednesday evening Jamie was working and I came home to an empty house. After a quick meal I decided to take a walk over to a, what I termed, (the big dig) behind a couple of houses and see the progress. While there I met one of my neighbors who I meet with in group here and she led me to visit with her husband. This “disciple of Christ” and I had a great conversation and in the middle he brought up some thoughts about the Bible. I love it when, outside of the church building context, a person thinks about and still ask questions about God. After this, I met with a couple of other neighbor further down the road who I am trying little by little to point towards Jesus. We had a great time just visiting about life, neighborhood stuff, and me planting seeds for a new study group this fall. After returning home and starting to mow the yard, my next door neighbor was on his porch and so I decided the lawn can wait and made my way over there to visit. During our time of multiple discussions he brought up some Bible stuff also just like it was a naturial thing. Finally at about 9:30 my roaming’s came to an end. It was one of the best evenings I had in a while. Somehow God moved my heart towards people who I live among to continue to plant seeds. The blessing I get is to hear people who I have lived around for years not only willing, but start God conversations. One of those couple I really enjoyed talking to is a woman/woman married couple whom I love to be around. I am not offended by their life choice; they do not know my God yet. I want them to see my care for them regardless, and to add contrast to what examples of hate they see in some false Christians. I think I am beginning to see what discipleship is all about. It’s looking at others through Gods eyes and seeing them for who they really are, “made in Gods image”. It not dictating a way to walk but living it and by small gestures inviting them to live this way also. It’s lightly leading them to the most misunderstood Father of Heaven, through His Son Jesus. Furthermore, it is not in a pushy, shallow, or condescending way, but friendly honest, inviting, and lovingly persistent in the context of the neighborhood where I live. I am studying the folks in Coeymans to see how I can impact their lives for Christ’s Kingdom so I too am a disciple. What about you personally? Do you have a regular relationship with your neighbors, or do you have a leading relationship? Jesus said “as you go through life, make disciples, then baptizing those disciples when their ready for forgiveness of their sins and so they receive the Holy Spirit to help them and continue to teach them the things of God”. Matt 28:18-20 "more thorough translation". By the way, I am still trying to figure all this stuff out so let’s do it together and share in the results.
