Last Week the City Council passed a new ordinance that prohibits people from rummaging through trash that has been placed at the curb for pick up. Believe it or not there are people who will dig through your trash looking for information to steal your identity or otherwise "rip you off". We have had some occurrences of this around town recently. The ordinance prohibits people, other than the authorized trash collection company and city employees, from touching your trash, removing it or handling it in anyway. This law does not prohibit you from placing something at the curb to give away, just put a sign on the item stating "free". If you see anyone that is not authorized, digging through or removing trash, please call the Bridgeport Police Department immediately.
