Last night I went to a special screening of The Internets Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz in Century City. Its a great documentary and powerful look at the life of Aaron Swartz. I remember hearing about this and was paying attention to all the activity going on with SOPA, but had no idea of the impact or the nature of Aarons case or some of the amazing work he had done. The film follows the story of programming prodigy and information activist Aaron Swartz. From Swartzs help in the development of the basic internet protocol RSS to his co-founding of Reddit, his fingerprints are all over the internet. But it was Swartzs groundbreaking work in social justice and political organizing combined with his aggressive approach to information access that ensnared him in a two-year legal nightmare. It was a battle that ended with the taking of his own life at the age of 26. Aarons story touched a nerve with people far beyond the online communities in which he was a celebrity. This film is a personal story about what we lose when we are tone deaf about technology and its relationship to our civil liberties. I would highly recommend taking the time to watch it. You can find the movie on iTunes and other commercial outlets, but the filmmaker has chosen to release the film for free - its all over the net. You can check it out on Youtube at https://youtube/watch?v=vXr-2hwTk58 Thanks for the invite Dave Harvilicz @ Kernel
