Last night there was a banquet to honor the regions First Responders. There was a great turn out of Fire Fighters, EMTs, Paramedics, Police Officers and Coast Guard. I was asked to say a few words. After I spoke several First Responders asked that I share my words.... A Tribute to our First Responders You are the ones…. Who work in the hours when the rest of us sleep; who leave your warm beds to save someone else from the cold. You are the ones…. That travel blanketed in the sounds of sirens that most of us only hear from a distance and rarely think about after the sound fades away. You are the ones…. Who leave your families to help someone not lose a member of theirs. You are the ones…. Who run toward those things that most others run away from. You are the ones… That many only think about when they need you most. You are the ones… Who choose time and time again help others without ever asking, What can you do for me? You are the ones… Who endure blazing sun, freezing cold, raging flames and icy water to search for, find, help and save someone whom you’ve never met before. You are the ones… Who carry with you, memories of things that most of us will never see. You are the ones that we are here to honor and thank tonight. No matter what we do or say here this evening it can never truly demonstrate how grateful we are that you have chosen to fill this vital role in our communities. From the bottom of my heart, I hold each and every one of you in the highest regard for doing something that many of us don’t find the courage to do. Thank you.
