Last week I wrote about all the things the scale doesnt say about you. But how do you get motivated to start losing weight, changing to a healthier lifestyle? -Make a commitment: This commitment has to be to you first of all. You cant do this for anybody else...you have to do it for you. Understand that this is not a quick change. Acknowledge that this is for the long-term. (NO, YOU DONT HAVE TO BE PERFECT!!!PERFECTION IS NOT THE GOAL) -Discover Your Inner Motivation: As stated above, this has to be for you. Ask yourself, What are your top 5 reasons why you want to lose weight now? These can include an upcoming vacation;your health,to look good or better in clothes. -Find a support system: Nobody can do this alone...you want people in your network who will encourage you;no negativity and no sabotage. We need to tell people what we need from them(they cant read minds). Accountability is also so helpful. -Set realistic goals: When you are setting weight loss goals, remember the healthy rate of weight loss is an AVERAGE of 1/2-2 pounds a week...but again the scale is not the only measure of your success. Another goal can be not to be perfect. Setbacks or slight slips happen. This is a process so just pick yourself up and continue on. The most important thing is to focus on the small positive changes you are making through this process. Weight-loss will happen if you stick with it and TRUST THE PROCESS!!!
