Late Onokpite: Keyamo Betrayed Us - Family THE FAMILY of slain gubernatorial candidate of the Citizens Popular Party CPP, Chief Ogbe Onokpite has called on the public to disregard claims by Festus Keyamo that he stood for the case and that he notice the family of Late Chief Ogbe Onokpite intention was to get money for compensation that was the reason he (Keyamo) pulled out of the case. It could be recalled that Festus Keyamo while declaring his intentions to run for the senate, following the untimely demise of Senator Pius Ewherido stated that he withdrew from representing the Onokpite’s over the murder of their brother, late Chief Ogbe Onokpite when it became clearly apparent to him that the Onokpites were after a different outcome. Mr. Diemo Onokpite who spoke on behalf of the family told journalists that Festus Keyamo betrayed the Onokpite family, explaining that when Chief Ogbe Onokpite died, Barr. Festus Keyamo, in a conference on television stated that Chief Ogbe was murdered and that he would fight for justice and would not stop until he get justice, adding that the family of the slain politician were very happy on hearing this. He said, “when I called Keyamo severally, concerning the case on the next action he told me that he has written petition to the Presidency and the Inspector General of Police on the issue. We later noticed that Keyamo was not doing anything about the case and we were not aware of the reasons behind his withdrawal. “The family quickly hired another lawyer who then wrote fresh petitions via courier to Keyamo and notified him that he has written fresh petition on the matter that he has sent it to him. Keyamo later received the fresh petition from the family lawyer and pictures of how Chief Ogbe was murdered which was a good evidence for the case. After waiting for Keyamo’s action on the issue without result we directed the family lawyer to act on his own which he did and we are still in the case up till date. Chief Ogbe case file is currently with the attorney general awaiting his advice”. Diemo pointed out that Onokpite family never in any way requested for compensation on their murdered son and brother, adding that assuming they wanted compensation, they could have sue the police for compensation. Diemo advised Urhobo people to assess very well aspirants jostling for elective positions before voting for such persons, adding that most of them are pretenders
