Late fall and winter is a good time to send in your gardens dirt - TopicsExpress

Late fall and winter is a good time to send in your gardens dirt for free soil testing. I took our sample to the Faulkner County office of the Cooperative Extension Service a few weeks ago and this afternoon the results came back. I think were good - only a tiny amount of Nitrogen is recommended if we plan on planting legumes. No lime is suggested (!) But we were Above Optimum on Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K) and Zinc (Zn). Apparently our garden is practically galvanized; the Zinc level testing 3x optimum. Ive never heavily amended the soil - so Im wondering where all these numbers are coming from. And now to find out how harmful these levels are and if they should be mitigated somehow. At least the report wasnt delivered by a state employee wearing a hazmat suit.
