Learning about ICU delirium. Something definitely going on with David. Seems to be getting worse as night falls. As the staff tries to discern what is stroke damage and ICU psychosis he still demonstrates his brilliance and personality! Gotta love my man!! He was asked: what weighs more, a one pound rock or a two pound rock? He answered: how long is the rope. But then when she asked if you throw a rock into the sea - will it sink or float? And he shocked the day lights out of them by grinning and answering, it depends upon which sea. When she said, what? He said, it will float in the Dead Sea! And then began to school her about the precise salt content of the Dead Sea!! Yet oddly he told me to please get his toy several times. Said he got it at the promise land at the masters table. There were little children and big children and he was given a toy.... Wow! Truly interesting and entertaining - but very sad as well. Once I said, do you know who I am? He said, you better be my baby! Then out of the clear blue he cried and said - Mike and Doris brought me here, didnt they? And I had a stroke. I said yes and you are getting better. Then shortly after the nurse said, Do you know your name? He said, Pierce of Vanderbilt, Sir. And we have a long nautical history! 😳 The sweetest moments was watching him know his son, hold his hand and quote lines from movies.... Then he gave us a lecture in his favorite writers Vonnegut, Hemingway and how he did not like the man who wrote, The Painter!! He is definitely with us -- just roaming around a bit right now! I hold his hand and tell him over and over how much I love him. And what an amazing miracle he is!!
