Lessons learned at the North Iowa Co op 1) everyone knows everyone in the farming community and being someone new throws off their groove...they arent sure what to do with the abnormalities of a girl who wants grain for her horse 2) young ladies dont often go to the NI coop for grain in somewhat small quantities. 3) sometimes easy chores are harder than they seem Mission: purchase oats for sky I enter the main building and tromp up the stairs to the front counter and there begins my hilarious encounter. Co-op man: (confused look on his face) what can I do for you? Me: (bright and cheerful but quite nervous based on the dudes face) my names Jenn onofrio and Id like to buy some bulk oats. Co-op man: okay what do you want them for? Me: for my horse Co-op man: alright, who are they for? Me: me Co-op man: and who are you Me: Jenn Co-op man: Jenn who? Me: Jenn Onofrio Co-op man: and whos that? (by now Im struggling to keep the laughter from escaping) Me: thats me, is it okay if I buy oats? You do have them right? Co-op man: oh yes Ive just never seen you before Me: oh does that mean I cant buy any grain Co-op man: no, I mean...Im not trying to embarrass you, its just Ive never sold to you before. Did you just move to town? Me: no i didnt. Ive lived in mason for a few years, your truck brought me oats a couple years ago. Youre not embarrassing me, Id just like to buy some bulk oats, it is cheaper that way right? Co-op man: oh yes yes, okay I see your barrels Ill call out and tell the guys youre coming, just pull around back. And so it happens that after the confusion and much laughter I was finally able to walk away...until next year lol
