Let me re-introduce you to Dakota! She is the sweet and wonderful young girl with spina bifida, who is the reason that UpB4 Son Charities has a bed ministry! About a year ago we heard from her Auntie, explaining that Dakota had been sleeping on the couch for two years, unable to get up-and-down into a regular bed, due to her physical situation. We posted on Facebook and found someone to donate a used hospital bed. Another group volunteered to pick it up and deliver it all the way to Shiprock! Dakota and her mom, pictured above were thrilled! You wouldve thought they won the lottery. That experience helped us realize there was a big need for beds in our community. Since then, we have placed well over 100 beds with those in need. Today I got some sad news. Dakota has developed a severe and dangerous infection. She was airlifted to UNMH where they removed a baseball sized chunk of her flesh. Her family had to destroy all of her bedding and clothing. I hope to be able to visit her tomorrow at the hospital. Please join me in praying for her, the doctors and staff as they fight this terrible infection. If anyone has nice sets of twin sheets and blankets to donate that would be helpful. Im sure her family would also appreciate any donations that would help them with clothing, and with Christmas, as I can imagine the extra expenses associated with all of this has put them in a very tough spot.
