Letter To Mr Governor-to-be What Would You Do For Me? The primary elections have been won, you are now working to sell yourself to me the electorate. So far, you have not asked me what I want or need, you have been saying you will do many things thinking those are the things I need. You are right in some, in some you are very far off. I would have kept quiet but I would be the loser, so I will tell you some of the things you should prepare to do or forget about the government house. I would like to write a few lines on the economy today, if PHCN permits and I have light to charge my China Phone, I would write on other areas subsequently. Benue Economy: For long we have been a subsistence farming state, no industries, no tourism even though potentials abound. Remove Benue from the group of industrially backward states. Dont just think of industries, think of industries for which our people produce raw materials; fruits juice, tomatoes paste, soybean and ground nut oils, yam flour, cassava flour, animal feeds, etc. We are an agricultural state, lets take our agriculture to the next level. Revive Taraku Mills, let it perform to capacity; what is happening to the tomato factory, how about the fertilizer blending plant? Just too many to talk about. Do you have any plan for these factories and even more? Besides agriculture, there are several other raw materials under our feet waiting to be tapped and put to good use; limestone, kaolin - time and space would fail me to mention them all. I believe Benue State should not be depending on Federal allocation but for our failure like other states to develop what we have to a point where it gives us a sizeable income to meet our needs. Everybody is jittery now that crude oil is no longer the darling in the market. Would we be jittery is we removed our state from dependence on hand outs from FG? NO. But we didnt, now we are going to pay dearly. When crude oil was above 100 dollars a barrel workers were still owed salaries, now its below 60, is there hope? If you have the chance and privilege (yes, privilege) to serve Benue people, prepare to take the state out of dependence on FG. If you dont know how, ask those who have done it; at least one state did it and is doing it. If you succeed in developing our industrial sector, not only would the state have an increased income, there would be less unemployed youths, less vice, less crime, but a more prosperous populace and society. Believe me, some wont like this idea because it would mean less youths to use as thugs, but I believe in my guts, it is the right thing to do. Mr Governor-to-be, REVIVE OUR INDUSTRIES, SET UP NEW ONES AND SEE BENUE BLOOM.
