Libby stood uncertainly by her owner watching me. Her body - TopicsExpress

Libby stood uncertainly by her owner watching me. Her body language told me she was will to give me a chance despite her slight fear. So, I tossed her a treat. Almost immediately she ate it. Awesome!!!! Her stress and fear level were low. I squatted down tossing treats gradually getting her close to me. Each time Libby ate the treat without hesitation. I then placed a treat in the palm of my hand. Libby eased over next to me and took the treat from my hand!!!! Amazing!!! A few minutes and treats later, Libby allowed me to pat her for a second. All through this Libby received lavish praise. After all she was facing her fears. Since Libby didnt know any commands, I started teaching her the sit command using treats. At no time was Libby forced into the sit position. Her willingness to respond to my commands impressed me. After watching me lure Libby into the sit position a couple of times, her owner took over. He did an excellent job of getting her to respond reliably. Next we worked on another issue of Libbys, pulling on the leash. Her owners told me, Libby pulled them all over the parking lot and building. They expressed a very real concern of Libby pulling them down. Hence the fur saver for their control and safety. I gave Libby the command to walk with me and off we went around the inside of the facility. Despite her fear, Libby gamely followed along behind me. As she moved away from her owners, she tucked her tail up to her stomach. I praised her for walking with me while being feaful. After a couple of circuits around the room, her owner took the leash. Libby perked up and happily moved off beside her. Her tail returned to its normal position. Libby confidently walked around straight chairs which prior to my arrival frightened her. I even moved one and she remained calm. Towards the end of the session, we moved outside to practice Libbys new loose leash skills. She walked beautifully on the leash. Once she moved out ahead of me and I turned quickly walking in the opposite direction. Libby corrected herself then walked beside me. All during this walking, we praised Libby for doing a good job. Her owner successfully walked her under trees, on the grass, and around scary objects. Libby walked confidently beside him. A few minutes before I left, Libby graced me with her Pittie smile. She felt very confortable to do that. When I took her picture with my phone, my phone fell onto the floor. Libby was scared of my phone. I held it up to her praising her for smelling it. I then placed it back on the floor for her to check it out. Both Libby and her owner did an amazing job last night. Libbys progress and response to my training gave them hope for a brighter future with Libby going places and doing things with them.
