Lists, Lists, Lists We have decided to uproot ourselves and sail - TopicsExpress

Lists, Lists, Lists We have decided to uproot ourselves and sail to the Bahamas. Ahh, such a grand plan. Sounds so dreamy. Its the reality that is quite ominous. How do we make money? What do we do with our house? What do we do about our kids education? Can we live on a 41 foot boat for 8 months without killing each other? All great questions. Now, to see what the answers are. We had grand plans to sail the Caribbean in a year. We would hop from place to place. It was only when we meet a great sailing family on our trip, that we saw the error in our dream. We could sail, but to do the Caribbean, we would need at least 2-3 years to do it well. This family, who had been sailing in the Bahamas for the past 5 years or more, had us convinced that for our first adventure, the Bahamas was the spot to go. We made smaller plans, got a map, and that was it. Our plan is to leave next October, take the ICW (Intercoastal Waterway) down to Florida, make the passage in good weather over to the Bahamas, and then live there until Hurricane season comes back. We will then come back to the US and who knows from there. More questions will have to be asked. Can we keep going? Should we sail up to Vermont? Nova Scotia? Can we live on our boat year round? Should we go around the world? Lofty questions that will only be able to be answered after our adventure to the Bahamas. Right now, our life is full of lists. To do lists. I have one, Jesse has one, the boat has one, even the kids have one. We have to continue on with our daily lives, plus try to tackle our to-do lists for this adventure. Its going slowly, but its going. We have food lists, homeschooling lists, stuff to sell lists, stuff to keep, lists of people who will be holding our things we cant part with, lists of all sorts. Lately, I have been going through all of our worldly possessions and selling or getting rid of the things we havent used or will need in the future. Its actually been really fun to get rid of stuff and make money for our kitty (money used for boat/sailing). I have started going through decorations for holidays and plan on getting boxes out of the attic and moving them to my moms. It will feel good to get the closet empty and see progress. This is the not so fun part of our adventure. But its necessary if we want to pull up the anchor and sail away.
