Lo everyone. Kevyn Gamutan here (if you dont know). So for English, we have a little contest-project where we post our descriptive essays on FB and show the world what we wrote and hope they like back. So please take the time to read this essay. If you like it, then please click the pretty like button below this. Comments are nice too for feedback, praises, and violent reactions. If you hate this, constructive criticism is allowed, just dont start a flame war. So, on with the show! :-P THE LAND WHERE WATER FLOWS I’M BIASED. But if a tourist walked straight to me and asked for the best place to visit here in the Philippines, I would say CARAGA. Now, if I were poetic like Shakespeare or my English teacher, then CARAGA would be “a dazzling beauty in the midst of the tropics; the temptation in the heat; coolness of a lake in the day and the heat of a hot spring at night; like freedom from my sorrows; a relief in the water; a leak when I can no longer hold it”. (I should really stop now.) But what really makes CARAGA special? WE ALWAYS START WITH THE BASICS. CARAGA has five provinces: Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte; Surigao del Sur, and the Dinagat Islands. Simple right? Let’s take a short trip to the capital of this region which is simply begging for attention: Butuan. Butuan is located in Agusan del Norte, the first province we will be talking about. What’s so special in Butuan anyway? I dunno, maybe the largest bridge in Mindanao? Have I ever mention it is the third largest in the Philippines? Or how about Agusan river? If the Philippines holds a river length contest, this river is a sure in for a bronze medal. Beauty contest? Like what I’m saying, I’m biased. Definitely first place. Speaking of Agusan river, why don’t we take a walk down to the edge of this river and visit Agusan Marsh in Agusan del Sur? If you ever want to visit a natural zoo, this is the place to be. It’s got all sorts of wildlife; water lilies that have taken our breaths away, birds that come as far as from Russia, catfish, turtles, even crocodiles. Okay that’s cool, but can it really fit all those animals? Yeah I mean, it’s roughly the size of Metro Manila. Why not? It’s not only helpful to animals; in fact, a community of Manobos live there as we speak on little floating houses, the marsh providing them their every need. I’m sure the place is in good hands, don’t you think? ENOUGH ABOUT AGUSAN, aren’t there any other provinces in here we can talk about? Of course there are! Haven’t I mentioned five provinces earlier? A few kilometers away from Agusan, we have two more wonderful provinces: Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur. If you think Agusan is full of water, then this place is certainly flowing with it? Have you ever wanted to go kayaking? Snorkeling? Birdwatching? Surfing? Then this place is perfect for you! Up north, two hours from the mainland, you can go visit Sohoton Cove in Surigao del Norte. And bring a bathing suit. I mean, what more could there be to swimming with jellyfish? What? Of course they’re not poisonous! And once you get over the initial fear, you have to admit they’re kind of cute. Going down under, we take another (wet) journey to Enchanted River. Funnily enough, it’s called ‘enchanted’ because no one can catch fish there, so if you ever get the chance to visit it, don’t bother looking for a magic school for fishcraft and wizardry. Though one look at its glistening blue waters and you’ll totally agree with its fitting name. Remember to take a look through Dinagat Islands too. You never know the surprises that could be waiting for. SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Vamonos! CARAGA is truly a sight to see. It’s a mystery to be solved, a pearl in the water, a doorway to the wet unknown. It’s a water park, community, and nature preserve all in one. When you visit, don’t forget the swimsuits and sunscreen. Canonball!!!
