Look out, here comes some real talk: Be careful not to push your goals and interests off on other people when you are giving them advice. For example, Im continually told that I need to ride my bike with clip in shoes, and frankly, I have ZERO interest in doing that. It will make you a better cyclist. Youll build up muscles that you dont use otherwise. This bothers me for a couple of reasons. 1. I didnt ask for the advice, even though I know its coming from people who care about me and its coming with the best of intentions. 2. What is wrong with the cyclist that I am right now? In my opinion, not one darn thing! Im happy with my 15-20 mph rides with my friends and I enjoy the social part of the rides. Do I enjoy a good sprint? YES! Can I do them in my tennis shoes? YES! Ive gotten up to and over 27 mph with regular old shoes on, which is plenty fast for this old gal lol. While Im a strong willed and strong minded person, who can tell people my feelings when this happens, not everyone is able to. Im fully supportive of my competitive friends and hope they do their absolute best, and I am also fully supportive of my friends who are just living life and trying to stay fit and healthy, while enjoying their exercise choices. Food for thought
