Loving Others As We Love Ourselves “Dear children, let us - TopicsExpress

Loving Others As We Love Ourselves “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth.” 1st John 3:18 Throughout the Bible God tells us that love is the greatest commandment. It is so important to show our children that we love them, and we cannot do this often enough. If our children know that we care about them they will be secure, feel protected and contented in their family. According to God the best gift we can give to anyone is to focus our attention upon them, to give them our time, to listen to them, to talk to them and to show them that we love them. Time is the most precious gift God gives us; we can’t produce time and any time we use is gone forever. If we give our time to help our children this is the greatest gift we can give to them. Our children can also learn a valuable lesson by watching us and seeing how we deal with others. If our schedules are too busy to have the time to spend with our friends, neighbors, business associates and our church family in order to find out about them and establish a relationship with them, we need to seriously evaluate our priorities and change them to allow the time to spend with these people. God is telling us that this should be one of our top priorities in life to build these relationships and be a witness to them. If we start giving of ourselves God will begin to bless our lives. Our gifts, our acts of kindness, our love for others will get God’s attention and it will also get the attention of our children. They will begin to see how they also can affect the lives of people around them. It will start the blessings flowing in their own lives. It will change them. I am witnessing this in our family each and every day. My youngest son, as mentioned previously has been called into the ministry. This calling has been in his heart for some time as we have talked over the years, and he has been very interested in ways to help others. We even talked several years ago about setting up a ministry in our area to help the needy. He has shown a passion over the years to want to help, encourage and meet the needs of people around us. My daughter has always had such a talent as an encourager to others, and is now devoting much of her time and talent to be a sounding board and encourager to the people in her church. She is so gifted in this regard and God is using her to affect the lives of others. Our older son has always been a perfect example of someone who is living his life for God and has such a talent to make everybody he comes into contact with feel good about themselves. All of our children have been able to embrace God’s command that they are to love others as God loves them, and are putting this commandment to practice in their everyday lives.
