MAALIKI YAWMI DDIYN. Often times we repeat this short phrase in our prayers but do we really know the true import? THE KING OF THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT. Firstly, it implies there is a great and terrible Day ahead. The Day of justice and retribution. The Day of reckoning and accountability. An inevitable Day. An irresistible Day. A very long and arduous Day indeed! A mighty and overwhelming Day! A Day when we shall all stand naked with the sun brought so low to our heads that our brains will be boiling hot. A Day when we shall be immersed in our sweats as high as the seas and we almost sink and drown in it. A Day that the youngest shall grow grey hair due to the severity and enormity of the suffering. The Day that we shall beg for the judgement to commence though it will be more calamitous than the waiting which will be unbearable. The Day that our worldly riches and possessions shall be of no benefit at all. The Day when we shall have no power or helper and every soul shall wait upon the mercy of our Lord, the very King and Master of that Great Day. A Day that is remembered by the pious with trembling hearts and teary eyes. A Day of gathering of all of mankind and jinns for their report cards and the Angels shall line up in straight rows. Fortunate indeed are those who receive their score sheets with their right hands! For they shall be in eternal bliss unimaginable!. Doomed indeed are those who receive their books of deeds with their left hands! For they shall wallow in ceaseless misery and torments unspeakable!. So, what have we prepared for that Awesome Day? How do we plan to meet the King of Day of Judgement? We either meet Him pleased with us or deserving of His Wrath. A Day He will choose to be Merciful to the believers and ruthless with the unbelievers who neither believed in their meeting with Him on that Day nor prepared anything for it. Are we also heedless and non-chalant concerning that inevitable Day while we allow the deceitful world to occupy our minds with endless and useless worries and concerns that will benefit us not on the Great Day? We shall soon have to pay the debt of death unexpectedly and the depth of meeting with THE KING OF THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT. Wise indeed is he who prepares conscientiously for this fearful event. May Allah make it easy for us. Ameen!!!.
