MAPLE UPDATE: (Please see previous post for what happened originally today.) From Maples mom: They are now at Virginia Tech Vet Hospital. 1st update: Weve had initial consult. Waiting on the CT scan. We are hoping for the first scenario. IVDD. Its very treatable with surgery. Waiting to speak with the surgeon. 2nd (most recent) update: Waiting for results of MRI. We are praying it shows degenerative discs, and she can go straight to surgery. So many of you have texted, Private messaged, face booked your concern about my beloved Maple. She is not distressed or in pain. She tolerated the trip well, and slept once we got on the interstate. Hunter and I will be spending the night, and more than likely driving home after we see her tomorrow. The vets and staff all adore her. She is being so good and brave. It is very hard to see her unable to sit up and walk. I love this dog more than my life. Please continue to pray. H and I are eating, waiting on the phone call and then going to bed. None of these are *great* however, IVDD (disk disease) is the best case scenario right now I believe. And that is the most likely scenario. Please keep Maple and her family in your thoughts over the next 24 hours. Our hearts are with Lorie and Hunter as they learn whats going on with our girl. ❤️🐾 If you didnt see Maples original story, it is one the saddest. She came to us from a wonderful family that had agreed to foster her for another rescue in PA. That rescue apparently shut down and left them with Maple. They loved Maple like one of their own dogs, however Maple had a very bad past that she just couldnt beat. When she was a puppy her ears and tail were cut off with scissors (if they would have cut her tail any more, she would have been incontinent), and they poured some sort of motor oil/kerosene type mixture on her body to cure mange. She was then tied out to a tree with a huge chain and not fed or watered or cared for. She was also presumably abused by those people further as well. Finally animal control removed her from that situation and she went to a shelter in Ky. Later a rescue took her in and that is when Julia and Grant agreed to foster her and take her into their home as their own. As I said before, Maple couldnt escape the demons of her past and became very overly attached to Julia (her awesome foster mom) which resulted in Maple attacking and seriously injuring one of their personal dogs for getting too close to Julia. They knew that she needed to be an only dog with a devoted mom because of these issues. They had tried obedience schools, training, anything and everything that they could think of to help her. They had contacted numerous other rescues and resources and everyone turned them away. They were at the end of their rope and they didnt know where to turn. Maples journey was about to end when Julias mother in law was referred to PPR by a friend. Somehow we had reached them all the way in PA! So, her MIL called me and she told me about Maple. I asked her to send me photos, vet records, and a bio on Maple and told her that we would do our best to find her a home! Around a month later, Lorie (maples mom now) commented on a picture of Maple and said she would love to have her. I commented back and asked that if she was serious to message us. Shockingly (for us) she messaged us immediately (that almost never happens)! After we chatted for several days and went through applications and she did research on being a dog mom (first time dog mom) we made arrangements for Julia and Grant to bring Mapsie down from PA and we planned to introduce her to Lorie and her son. I think overall I spent from around noon until about 9-10pm at Lories home getting Maple acclimated and comfortable. Maple had severe anxiety and trust issues, which took some time to get over, but she eventually warmed up and was comfortable in her new home. We are so thankful for people like Julia, Grant, and Lorie for caring for Maple and loving her in spite of her past and her issues. Maple is a success story that we are so proud of, and it goes to show that theres a place for every dog...it just might take a while to find the right place. Please keep everyone in your thoughts tonight!
