Plus d’une vingtaine de morts, une cinquantaine de blessés et de nombreuses maisons détruites ont provoqué la désolation dans la ville. « Je présente mes condoléances aux familles qui ont perdu des êtres chers », a déclaré Martin Kobler. Mr Kobler a poursuivi «J’ai demandé à notre bureau à Mbuji-Mayi d’aider et de soutenir les autorités locales pour faire face à cette situation, et je souhaite un prompt rétablissement à tous les blessés. ». La foudre serait la cause de cette catastrophe selon des sources officielles.
