MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MHAAC - ANN MARLOW On September 13th, I had the opportunity to attend a symposium sponsored by Baptist Hospital, entitled Faith Based Community and Mental Health. This symposium was EXCEPTIONAL!!! There were speakers from various religions and faith; (i.e Baptist, Orthodox, Muslim Faith, the Catholic faith, etc) -- and ALL were on ONE accord regarding the need for Mental Health Awareness!!!!! I was ENCOURAGED, after having attended this symposium, to PRESS ON even the more; in bringing Awareness, Education, Empowerment and Assistance to those that are STRUGGLING with this ILLNESS!! One thing that was reiterated OVER and OVER during the conference was the fact that it is going to take a VILLAGE to help eradicate this illness from our Communities. EVERYONE being our brothers keeper. If I cant assist directly -- then I can REFER to whomever or whatever facility that can assist. This is the mentality that we ALL must have -- to ensure that our loved one, our friend, our colleague, that child, that man, that woman....etc., gets the help that they so RIGHTFULLY deserve! And so, on that note -- I want to CORDIALLY extend a personal invitation to each and everyone in the Jacksonville COMMUNITY to attend our next Town Hall to be held this coming Saturday, September 27th at the Community Rehabilitation Center located at 623 Beechwood Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. On behalf of myself and the general Board of Mental Health in the African American Community (MHAAC), we look forward to seeing YOU in attendance, as we CONTINUE this AWESOME conversation to say WE CARE!!!!!!
