►►►MONTE DE ORO WINERY RUINS WEDDINGS! He brings brides to tears. He has terrible management skills, unskilled and unprofessional staff that threaten to undermine all wedding and events. In over 30 years in the entertainment business and as a “wedding DJ” I have NEVER encountered as unprofessional and corrupt person who claimed to be the owner (Frank Maggio) of Monte De Oro Winery in Temecula, CA. On 9.28.2013, I arrived at my usual 2.5 hours before the start time of the event (wedding). I asked several staff members where and how to setup and was given three sets of different directions. Each time I complied and moved over 1000 pounds of pro audio equipment according to their instructions. Even with only 45 minutes remaining until the ceremony when they wanted me to make yet another move and completely take my main system back to my enclosed trailer, I asked to speak with the manager. A man approached and did not mention his name but claimed to be the owner. Since, by that time, I had spoken to several staff members who claimed to have authority and each person having different sets of instructions, I kindly asked him to prove to me who he was (such as a business card). He immediately took offense and asked me to leave the premises. He also stated, “I will make sure that you never work in this valley again!” I then attempted to talk reason with him in that I was being asked to completely remove my main system, setup the ceremony system, then teardown the ceremony system and ultimately re-setup my mail system for the reception (all within 45 minutes of the start time). I further explained that many of his employees gave me conflicting information as to how, where and when to setup my systems but was always given different answers. I told him to read my contract that reads: 12(e) Unless specific instructions for placement location of equipment are not given at least 24 hours in advance of performance by the Purchaser or event coordinator, DJ Service will, on the day of performance, assess the venue, electrical loads, location of and number of guests and dance floor location. DJ Service will then setup where he deems is the best location to deliver performance. If DJ Service is subsequently asked to tear down, reposition and/or relocate equipment an additional fee of $100 per relocation will be assessed by DJ Service payable prior to performance in cash (a receipt will be issued at that time). In addition, DJ Service is not responsible for consequential time delays. At least three times with the bride crying and pleading for me to continue services, I agreed to do so (I absolutely DO NOT like saying no to a bride on her wedding day). Still, every time Maggio came back to insult, demand or threaten me again (To him it’s not a bride on her wedding day, its his profit that he is concerned with and doesn’t care how many people he damages in the pursuit of money). The third time was “the charm” and I had to end up invoking paragraph 12(g) of our contract. He them went on to say that he didn’t give a damn about my contract and that I’d better do what he said or I would never be able to work again. He used “mob-like” vernacular, gestures, threats and warnings. Mr Maggio even went so far as to “post” a “suited thug” to oversee my “exit” as if to instill additional “mob-like” intimidation. Mr. Maggio is indeed the lowest of all lows. How you ever worked for what you thought was a rude, corrupt, narcissistic, condescending, money hungry, power-hungry insolent employer? Mr. Maggio’s is one of those and deserves no patronizing of his establishment. Again, I told him to read the clause within my contract that says: 12(g) In the event of circumstances deemed to present a physical or implied threat of damage, electrocution, injury, harm or defamation of character to DJ Service’s person, staff or equipment including vehicle and equipment trailer or if the interpretation of a weather satellite image and/or weather radar map indicates adverse imminent weather that can cause damage, electrocution, injury or harm of any kind, DJ Service reserves the right to cease performance. If the Purchaser is able to resolve the threatening situation in a reasonable amount of time (maximum of 30 minutes) DJ Service shall resume performance in accordance with the original terms of this agreement. Purchaser shall be responsible for payment in full, regardless of whether the situation is resolved or whether the DJ Service resumes performance. In order to prevent equipment damage or liability arising from accidental injury to any individual attending this performance, DJ Service reserves the right to deny any guest access to the sound system, music recordings, or other equipment. And yes, after 15 minutes I called both the bride and groom’s cell numbers (only to get voice mail) and offered to continue with delivering all services as agreed so long as this person (Maggio) stayed away from me for the reminder of the night. (It is now over an hour and no one has called back. According to my contract, they have forfeited their payments) As well as: 11(a) Purchaser will not at any time either directly or indirectly relay, sell, divulge, disclose, publish, post or communicate in any manner any information that is proprietary to DJ Service or any details or circumstances resulting from or pertaining to this business relationship and DJ Service’s performance. Purchaser will protect such information and treat it as strictly confidential. This provision shall continue to be effective in perpetuity after the termination of this Agreement. Upon termination of this Agreement, Purchaser will return to DJ Service all records, notes, documentation and other items that were used, created, or controlled by Purchaser during the term of this agreement. He may also want to read: 17. INDEMNIFICATION. Purchaser agrees to defend, indemnify, assume liability for and hold DJ Service harmless from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses arising from losses incurred by or to any person or property regardless of the basis, which pertain directly or indirectly to DJ Service performance. Purchaser and their guests, acquaintances, representatives and family members will hold DJ Service harmless from any legal action and will not engage in slander or libel due to injury and/or losses. In the event that a civil action arises in an effort to enforce any provision of this agreement, the losing party shall pay the attorney’s fee and court costs of the prevailing party. Purchaser may not transfer this contract to another party without the prior written consent of DJ Service. …in other words: If he makes good on attempting to defame me, my company or my services, I will file a slander, libel and/or defamation lawsuit against him (whichever pertains). Further, the bride and groom will be named as co-defendants since they have allowed these matters to escalate to this degree. When all is said and done, Mr. Groom and Mrs. Bride, I will gladly testify in court for you to recoup your losses for DJ services as a result of this man and his staff’s actions. I hold no grudges against you. I have a reputation of exceeding the expectations of couples. However, this corrupt, uncouth individual ruined your wedding day. This winery (Monte De Oro), its owner (Frank Maggio) and its staff are extremely rude, unprofessional, and inept in the ways of business and will flat-out ruin a bride’s big day. Avoid doing business with this winery in any capacity including weddings. By the way, those wines of his that many people think are so great? According to a wine-maker friend of mine it’s because he adds large amounts of additional sugar. Do you really think he cares if you get a hangover? A copy of my contract is available for any person or member of the media. Contact: temeculaweddingpros@gmail (Pictured: Maggio about to wash down his anger management meds)
