MY CHARGE TO THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE DELEGATES I recall on - TopicsExpress

MY CHARGE TO THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE DELEGATES I recall on this occasion the comment of late Ikemba Nnewi in reference to the National Conference during his 70 birthday anniversary. He said among other things My fellow countrymen and women, talking about Nigeria I have a strong belief that we can make it. What has transpired in the past; the concept of might is right, is an aberration. It is only through a National Conference that we can create a Nigerian of ourselves, instead of patching it up As a passing shot on what has happened in the past, I will remind you all of the the pertinent aspect of your assignment, from the last speech of late Ken Saro-Wiwa on November 10, 1995 shortly before he was executed and I quote; We all stand before history.......We all stand on trial my Lord, for we have denigrated our country, and jeopardized the future of our children..... we subscribe to the subnormal and accept double standards, as we lie and cheat openly, and we protect injustice and oppression, we empty our classrooms, and denigrate our hospitals......, These denigrations are major parts of the onerous assignment that you have been called upon to do. I implore you all as men and women of conscience and goodwill to ascribe to higher standards, and ideals which most of you are known for, pursue the truth, honor and justice, freedom and hard work, This is our last chance and you are our last hope. You should consider what is best for the least and the lowest teaming population of the country. You cannot afford to fail and you must not fail. I take delight in noting that a jurist of foremost standing, Legbo Kutigi JSC, who called me to the Nigerian Bar, is the Conference Chairman, while an erudite scholar of no mean standard, Prof.Bolaji Akinyemi, who taught me International Relations at the University of Ibadan, is also the Deputy Conference Chairman. How I wish Prof Omafume Onoge, also made the list. I wish you all, Gods guidance in this onerous task of rebuilding Nigeria.
