Mai Atafo had some pretty big shoes to fill but he certainly gave it a good go. His menswear line “Jungle Gentleman” was inspired by the African man’s interpretation of what it is to be a gentleman of style and elegance without boundaries. Candy crush pastels conquered as opposed to the usual vibrant hues for which Africa is known. The designer flirted with floral prints and proved that double denim does work in his adaption of formal wear. Lines were straighter and tailoring sharper, it was a true representation of an African gentleman with a global perspective – a “Jungle Gentleman”. Next up was his “Etibor” womenswear collection, an androgynous line-up inspired by the traditional attire worn by the men of the South region of Nigeria. This is felt strongly in the fabric, cut and even the silhouette of the designs, and spiced up with typical Yoruba style from the western region of Nigeria. Empowering pinstripes wavered between unstructured and form fitting and the pristine white cuffs and collars would make you the envy at any Monday morning board meeting. #MaiAtafo #menswear #junglegentlemen #pastels #denim #pinstripes #suits #tailormade #womenswear #etibor #Nigerian #african #fashion #MBFWA #MercedesBenz #fashionweek #Melrose #Johannesburg #SouthAfrica #afrobougee #beinspired #finearts #jaime #living #moody #noir #welovethis #whatisblack
