Man seriously injured after crash – Lithgow A driver is assisting police with inquiries after a crash at Lithgow this afternoon. About 12pm (Saturday 24 May 2014), a Holden sedan was travelling east on the Great Western Highway when it allegedly left the roadway near the corner of Col Drewe Drive and hit an embankment. Police from Chifley LAC - NSW Police Force were called and attended the scene. A 36-year-old male passenger was ejected from the car and sustained head injuries and a suspected fractured pelvis. He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical but stable condition. A 30-year-old male passenger sustained cuts and abrasions, but did not require medical treatment. He assisted officers at the scene with inquiries. The 24-year-old male driver allegedly left the scene before officers arrived. Police attended a house on Stewart Street a short time later and arrested the driver. He was taken to Lithgow Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing, and treatment for minor injuries. One eastbound lane on the Great Western Highway is currently blocked.
