Many people may ask how I would know whether or not the results will be positive. In a way, one would never know and that is why we do the research. Since negative results are very discouraging, there are certain ways you can do to see if the research is worth spending your time doing it. The first thing is to come up with a testable hypothesis or question. I want to emphasize the word testable. What is a testable vs non-testable hypothesis? Here is an example of an interesting but non-testable hypothesis: We hypothesize that there are aliens living on the Mars. You may win a Nobel prize if you show it, but there is no way with current technology that you can prove or disprove this hypothesis. Dont try to ask a big question, which is usually hard to answer with simple experiments. You are not going to save human race or cure a disease with one research project.
