Marceline Chamber of Commerce meeting was called to order on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 by President Albert Yocom. 24 members were in attendance. Minutes of the October meeting were read. The treasurer’s monthly report showed an ending balance of $5,359.73. Under old business, members were reminded that peanuts will be sacked on Sunday, November 16, at 3pm at the fire barn. 14 members indicated they would be there to help. Any other members that can attend are encouraged to do so. Businesses should get their peanut bag premiums to Jerry Chrisman at C&W Hardware before Saturday afternoon. The schedule of events is ready and will be distributed to local papers and radio stations. Volunteers will also be needed on Peanut Night to sell peanuts; please let Jerry know if you can help! Chris contacted John Thomas of Brookfield to borrow/rent a microphone for the announcements in Ripley Park that evening. Under new business Albert appointed a committee of Pat Kussman and Darren Bodine to audit the treasurer’s books. The treasurer has pointed out that an audit should be done at the end of each year. A nominating committee of Joy Edgar, Frank Morales and Adam Stallo has been appointed to put together a slate of officers for 2015, and will report at the December meeting. Joy would like to hear from anyone interested in serving as an officer. The annual dinner meeting has been scheduled for Monday, January 12 at Susie Q’s 2. Social hour will begin at 6pm and dinner will follow at 6:30. 2014 chamber members are entitled to one paid meal; other guests will be at the member’s expense. Invitations will be sent in December. Under committee reports Matt Finch reported for the school. The 1:1 Chromebooks initiative has been completed for grades 9-12. The Veteran’s Day assembly was held on November 11 and showcased the new screen and sound system in the auditorium. Appreciation was expressed to the high school band and vocalist for their participation in the Veteran’s Day program at the community center. Congratulations to the football Tigers on their season, and good luck to the basketball team! Albert reported on Downtown Marceline’s Trick or Trot fundraising run, with over 80 runners, on November 1. Albert is attending a Quarterly Training Workshop in Warrensburg. Darrell mentioned that more volunteers are welcome to join the four committees of the Downtown Marceline organization. The community survey results were included in an article sent to the newspapers. NOMO Gallery is currently featuring a photography show. The Walt Disney Hometown Museum hosted over 11,000 visitors in 2014. 23 docents contributed 2,289 volunteer hours. A Canadian team is coming in December with the intent of filming a video which will be available for sale in the gift shop when completed. Kaye recommended another video about Walt Disney, entitled “As Dreamers Do”, which is available for sale in Walmart and on Amazon. Doug Kraus mentioned that the Linn County Ministerial Alliance will be ringing the bell at Walmart during the holiday season. He encouraged support for the Pregnancy Resource Center and talked about a new outreach at the OK Tavern on Tuesday evenings. Phil Barger informed us that the open enrollment period for the health insurance marketplace is from November 15 to February 15. To help citizens make an informed decision, Jane Spencer will be available on November 18, from noon to 7pm at the community center. Many members commented on the opening of Busy Bee Too. What a great window display and another retail business on main street, and we look forward to a ribbon cutting soon. Meeting adjourned.
