Match Report - EDGE vs NECROMANCERS Date: Sunday, 29 June 2014 Venue: Ballinger #2 Time: 1:00pm Result: NECROMANCERS (152/3 off 16.1) defeated THE EDGE (151/6 off 20) by 5 wickets with 19 balls to spare. **Necromancers Move to 2nd with Clinical Victory** The last game of the day saw two of the top teams battling to either retain or move in to 2nd spot. Edge would bat first, missing the Newbold brothers and many more regulars due to other commitments. Necromancers recruited 1st Grade star, Jamie Malcolm, much to the delight of skipper Paul Wilson, as the players took the field. Ash Gray and a host of other Swannies players were filling in for the severely short Edge side, as Ash and Lance Hockam strode out to face the new ball. Ash was off to a rapid start, continuing his form from earlier games, and once again, made his way to a superb 50. He combined patience with flair, ranging from monstrous 6s down the ground to lap sweeps for 4. This capped off Ash’s 3rd 50 in 3 games, with this more reserved effort coming off 26 balls. Lance was unable to get going, struggling with a sinus infection, understandably he was a little raw. His 15 off 15 was steady, and created a platform for The Edge. Oli Lane copped a beauty from Jamie Malcolm 2nd ball and was bowled for 1. Craig Deasy looked to guide the middle order, playing smart cricket as he and Tim Hockam looked to establish a partnership. Tim fell for 9 off 8, giving Necromancers a huge chance to regain control. Craig Deasy was knocked over by a beauty for 23 off 17, leaving Richard and Daniel at the crease. Richard Mutch was continuing his form early in his LMS career, launching his way to 42 off 23 before being run out in strange fashion. Daniel looked to rotate the strike, as the Ash Gray returned. Ash had the final ball of the innings, a chance to take the Edge to 161, he slightly mistimed the ball, and they scampered back for 2, then attempted an outrageous 3rd and was run out. Daniel finishing not out for 7 off 7, Ash finishing with 54 off 27. Edge finished with 151/6 off their 20, with Charl Botes (1/27 off 4), Jamie Malcolm (1/28 off 4), Christian Forrest (1/30 off 4) and Paul Wilson (1/31 off 4) sharing the wickets. With 152 needed to secure 2nd, Necromancers came out swinging. Unfortunately for them, Dave Law swung too hard too early as he was knocked over first ball. Wayne Moroney and Christian Forrest combined for a match-defining partnership, as the pair took the sting out of the early loss. Christian was more reserved, rotating the strike for Wayne who was constantly finding the boundary. Christian was eventually removed for an important 27 off 22, while Wayne kicked on to reach 50 off 26. The stage was set for Charl Botes, as he strode to the crease with just a tick over 8 an over required. This would be no trouble for Charl who absolutely launched in to the Edge attack. Charl was finding the fence with ease. Charl’s rapid 54 off 21 ensured the Necromancers would ease their way to victory. Paul Wilson made a cheeky 12* off 6 to guide his side home, while Jamie Malcolm couldn’t quite see them home, falling for 9 off 5. Necromancers finishing up 152/3 off 16.1, securing a clinical victory. Tim Hockam (1/19 off 1), Lance Hockam (1/29 off 3) and Ash Gray (1/30 off 4) were the wicket takers for the Edge. KINGS BEACH TAVERN Man of the Match: Charl Botes (NECROMANCERS) 54* off 21 & 1/27 off 4.
