Match reports for week ending 29th June and Youth reports. I think they are correct! Rain affected I believe! Kenilworth 1st XI v. Bablake Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division Rain denied both sides the chance of a win in a tight match that Bablake were ultimately the favourites. They had been bowled out for 165 inside 45 overs after S. Swaffield had made 67 lifting the side from a precarious 60-6 as he frustrated the Kenilworth bowlers despite the best efforts of Liam Newton who ended the day with a creditable 4-48 and fellow seamer Joe Boyle 3-48 whilst Neil Goodman and Dave Edmunds took the other wickets to fall. The Kenilworth innings stuttered but Chris Prophet hit a fine 42, Newton 24 and youngster Adam Huxford 23 as Brooks took 5-52. Rain prevented the match coming to a natural conclusion as Kenilworth were left 20 runs short and a wicket in hand with three overs of the match remaining leaving Boyle unbeaten on 14 as they ended the day on 146-9. Kenilworth 2nd XI v. Massey Ferguson Warwickshire Cricket League Division 2 Only 39 overs of the match were possible as the rain washed out any further chance of play. Massey were on 118-5 at the time with Mamfold unbeaten on 60 after Steve Rhodes had claimed 3-33, Jonnie Mortlock 1-33 and Charlie Stranks 1-25 for Kenilworth on a day of frustration. Kenilworth 3rd XI v Warwick Cotswold Hills Cricket League In a match reduced to 39 overs a side due to the weather only one innings was possible before the match was abandoned. Kenilworth had batted first and achieved the score of 200-5 thanks to openers Dave Howe hitting 31 and Vee Bora 71. Skipper Sam Leach was 39 not out and Andy Dadswell unbeaten on 20 at the close as they shared in a 61 run unbeaten 6th wicket partnership after Heare had taken 2-37 for Warwick with a wicket apiece for Moore and Sarson but a downpour prevented any further play. Sunday XI v. Harborne 40 over friendly Despite only scoring 109 all out Kenilworth were easy winners in this low scoring match and won by 70 runs against Harborne. Colt Charlie Stranks hit 54 with 7 boundaries and a six whilst Dan Horner chipped in with 19 and Adam Huxford 15 as Qasim took 5-21 for the visitors. Harborne then capitulated against some accurate bowling and were skittled out for only 39 as spinning duo Stranks took 3-5 and Ed Ruswa 3-1 after the youth seamers of Ryan Bull and Charlie Curtis had removed the Harborne top order with 2-11 and 2-14 respectively to record a resounding win. Youth Cricket Reports Kenilworths U11s were involved in an exciting match on Sunday playing Shipston on Stour that went down to the last ball. Kenilworth won the toss and elected to field. Theo Mannion took 2-15 and Fred Barry 2-12 in their three overs. Alfie Porter demonstrated athleticism in the field by a direct hit on the stumps from an acute angle and taking a neat caught and bowled. With Daniel Greaves tidy keeping behind the stumps, Shipston closed their innings on 222-8. Kenilworths opening pair put on a stand of 18 in their four overs but the match was always going to be a tight affair. Next in, Daniel Greaves scored his first runs for the U11s with a strongly hit 4. Wickets though continued to fall costing the team runs. Harry Dumper and Alfie Porter made a productive contribution with a stand of 17. Three swift wickets then fell in one over leaving Kenilworth on 222 with two overs remaining. James Mackenzie and Fred Barry successfully negotiated the final two overs picking up singles on the way without losing a wicket, leaving Kenilworth victorious on 227-9 and through to the Cotswold Hills League U11 semi-final. Meanwhile Kenilworths U9s were at a windball cricket festival at Astwood Bank. Playing with seven players rather than eight they battled hard and enjoyed all four of their games, losing three games and drawing one, but the improvement throughout the morning was noticeable for all to see. Emily Knox, Frankie Mannion, Luca Chapman and Ollie Roe all took more than one wicket on the morning and there was super fielding throughout. The U10s were in action earlier in the week versus Knowle & Dorridge and came out on top. Knowle & Dorridge batted first and were restricted to 230-4 with Kenilworths strike bowler Will Machin taking two wickets and James Sparks and Dylan Samani one each. Noah Smithson and Harvey Edwards both taking great catches. Kenilworths innings started slowly and after four overs Kenilworth were well below their 200 starting point. Jamie Sparks and Simon Reading led the recovery with a stand of 25 in their four overs before Will Machin and Jack Pegler added a further 27. In the final four overs Jamie Ransberry cracked a 4 and Noah Smithson two fours meaning Kenilworth closed on 257-6.
