Mating II Ateyo and Neyite now all grown up have a child of their own to look after - Ateyitan. The spitting image if Ateyo. Ateyitan is only 3 years old and he is a wish child just like Ateyo and me. He is being home schooled, learning basic words and then when hes a little older, hell be taken to the school house. Ateyo and Neyite pray that he wont go through what they went through. Ateyitan has a small flat bridged nose and pointed elfin ears protruding through his hair on one side. His eyes are a sunset yellow and his hair a dark black. Ateyo and Neyite, like me, Sera and Neytiri are really proud of them. They have grown up together and now have a child together. Neytiri chokes back a proud tear as Sera comforts her. Its always an emotional time - seeing Navi children grow up. Neyite holds Ateyitan in her hands as Ateyo stands over her starring down proudly at the sleeping baby in her arms. Im so proud of us said Ateyo hugging Neyite warmly in his arms. Im proud of us too said Neyite choking back a tear trying not to cry. Night grew in quickly that day and all three of them retired for the night. Ateyo was tingling with excitment because tomorrow, he and Neyite were going to show Ateyitan Pandora. He fell asleep with Neyite sleeping next to him and Ateyitan in their arms sleeping as a family. The next morning, the three of them were up early and holding hands, walked off into the forest and pointed things out to Ateyitan who was walking between them holding their hands. He is skipping gleefully as they walk along. Both Ateyo and Neyite point at things and give their names. Sometimes Ateyitan repeats the words while other times he doesnt. Ateyitan is in his own little world as he watches all the creatures of Pandora waking up and starting their day. Prolemurus, Stingbats and Hexepades all patrol the grounds and pose no threat to the Navi. Ateyitan giggles at the sight of them. Even the ikrans which are flying high get some attention from the wish child. Later that day, Neyite and Ateyo took Ateyitan to Pandora Falls, a tranquill place for the Navi to relax and be calm. A small island sits in the middle of a pool of water which is supplied by a waterfall behind it. A circle of trees surrounds the area sheilding it from human eyes. Two palm trees grow on the island with peach like fruits growing from the branches. The water is said to be Eywas tears and when drunk, it takes away all regrets and negative emotions. This is Pandora Falls Ateyitan. This is where we can come to relax explains Neyite having been told this by Neytiri. She was even brought here hoping that the tranquility of it would revive Neyite from her near death state. Ateyitan sat on the island in between his parents while a butterfly landing on his head fluttering its wings. Neyite and Ateyo couldnt help but aw at this sight. It was heart-warming for them to see their child learning about the world. Just think, in a few years hell be off to the school house learning english said Ateyo smiling. Neyite tried to smile but couldnt as she remembered when she and Ateyo were at school - they were bullied badly. I just hope that he doesnt get bullied like we did said Neyite crying with her head in her hands. Ateyo hugged her close to him. He wont. Ill make sure the teacher keeps an eye on him. And you never know, he might have someone to stick up for him like I had you said Ateyo. Neyite began to smile as she remembered the protectivness Ateyo and herself shared during their school years. I hope he does. I hope that he meets true love in school like you and I did said Neyite crying happily now thinking about Ateyitans future. Not long now said Ateyo looking and feeling really excited. He and Neyite remained in the hug which had now become a happy hug. What if he does get bullied and teased like we did? asked Neyite who suddenly started shaking. Then I must intervene said Ateyo coldly. Neyite knew what he meant by intervene but she didnt like it. Years later and a 7 year old Ateyitan walks himself to school. Several of the children who have been very clever in working out the biology side of the family have gathered that Ateyitan is a wish child. Ateyos father was, he was and now their son. It doesnt take a Sky Person in a white long coat to work that out. When class started, Ateyitan sat at the front where his dad used to sit. And just like his dad, verbal and physical abuse is being fired at him from the back of the class. These are the sons and daughters of the bullies who abused and bullied Ateyo and Neyite. Sitting next to Ateyitan is a beautiful young girl of about 10 with long braided hair hanging down by the sides of her ears. Her main brade is long and twisted tightly together. She has her head down, focusing on her writing and only looking up to see whats on the blackboard. All Ateyitan can hear is the words wish child being constantly repeated behind him. He has no idea what it means and rather than asking, just bottles in his frustration and concentrates on his work too. Break time and the children are released from the school house. Ateyitan sits on his own under a large tree eating an apple from the tree he sits under. The beautiful girl he saw in class earlier comes to sit by him. Hi she says. Her voice is smooth and gentle. Hi said Ateyitan trying to keep calm. We were never properly introduced earlier continues the girl. Im Llyite, daughter of Llyana she says. Llyana? That was the name of my fathers sister said Ateyitan with a shocked expression. Im Ateyitan, son of Ateyo said Ateyitan. Llyite looked rather shocked. My mother had a brother named Ateyo. Do you think our parents are the brother and sister of our grandparents? asked Llyite. Ateyitan nodded. Must be he said. The two of them didnt really talk for the rest of break, just sat in silence under the apple tree eating and gazing in all directions occasionally catching a glimpse of the other looking at them. After break, all the children were back in the school house and Ateyitan found his work was covered in the words Wish child. He knew that someone at the back of the class must have done this while he went out for break. Ateyitan couldnt understand why these children were being so mean to him. He wasnt all that different was he? He was also starting to get really upset by their remarks and abuse. He is glad when the school day ended. He sprints for home and doesnt even say goodbye to Llyite. When hes home, he lays on his stomach crying. Ateyo who has seen him rush in appears. Whats wrong Ateyitan? asked Ateyo already sensing that bullying was involved. Im being bullied at school. The children keep calling me a wish child he sobbed. Ateyo stroked his sons ear. You know Im a wish child right? asked Ateyo. Ateyitan jerked up, wiped his tears and looked at his father. Really? he asked. Yes and so is my sister Llyana Ateyo said. The word Llyana repeated in Ateyitans mind. I met her daughter today, Llyite said Ateyitan. Ateyo smiled. And whats she like? he asked. Beautiful. Shes very interesting. She sits next to me in class said Ateyitan now smitten thinking about Llyite. Ateyo smiled wider. There is the possibility that Llyite is a wish child like Llyana. Being a wish child means that you can wish at a very ealy age. If you want those children to shut up then just wish for it and itll come true. Thats what my father told me when I was your age explained Ateyo. Ateyitan sniffled as he started to calm down. Neyite entered the hammock area. Whats going on? Are you alright Ateyitan? she asked. Neyite always knows if somethings wrong - mothers usually do. Just bullies at school Ateyo explained. Neyite broke down into tears. I told you this would happen. I told you he would go through the same things we went through she sobbed, her words barely audible through her tears. Ateyo hugged Neyite close to him. Ill sort everything out he said. I promise he added squeezing Neyite closer to him. Later that night, Ateyitan couldnt stop thinking about what Ateyo told him earlier. He has the ability to wish for whatever he wants? Was this true? To him it sounded like a dream but if his dad said it was so then it must be ture. Ill go to school with my head high and if anyone messes with me then Ill wish them into oblivion he said confidently. The confidence failed him the next day. He strode into school with his head high determined not to get annoyed by those who abused him. But just as he walked into the classroom and the abuse started, his head was bowed in shame. He wanted to wish them into oblivion but something was stopping him. Maybe it was being around Llyite. Maybe he didnt want her to think he was some kind of freak. Even though her mother was a wish-child and that could possibly mean that Llyite was a wish child too. Ateyitan knew exactly why he hadnt wished the bullies into oblivion - he didnt want Llyite to think he was a bad person. Tears began to desend Ateyitans cheeks the more the abuse started. He tried to bottle it up but it was just so hard when verbal and physical abuse are being flung at him from all directions. Llyite could see that Ateyitan was looking really upset as she was the only one who saw his tears. She could clearly hear the voices behind her and knew who was doing it. She flung to her feet knocking over her chair and desk. Leave him alone she bellowed much to Ateyitans surprise. The three boys, who were very surprised by Llyites outburst were muttering amongst themselves. One of them even mocked Llyites words. Llyite flung herself at the boy who mocked her words and she began punching and kicking with all her might. Eyktan, who was the boy who mocked Llyite lashed out with his fist punching her jaw knocking her off balance. Ateyitan leapt up to his feet and kicked Eyktan in the stomach sending him flying to the back of the room and into the filing cabinets. Leave her alone you skxawng bellowed Ateyitan louder than Llyite did. I wish youd just leave us alone he shouted. There was a clap of thunder and all the boys did as they were told. They just continued with their work and didnt bother Ateyitan or Llyite throughout the rest of the day. Ateyitan was still shaking from the adrenaline rush before the fight and to what his dad would say when Grace told him. The day ended soon and Llyite and Ateyitan sat under the apple tree and just talked while they waited for their parents to show up. Thanks for defending me earlier said Ateyitan greatfully. Thank you for stopping those boys from bothering me anymore said Llyite in return. I just dread to think what dad will say when he comes to pick me up because Im sure Grace will tell him said Ateyitan shaking again. Llyite took Ateyitans hands and began stroking the backs of them like Llyana did when she was younger. Im sure hell be understanding assured Llyite. Soon, their parents arrived. See you later Ateyitan said Llyite who left with Llyana and TsuTen. Ateyo, Neyite and Ateyitan were just about to leave when Ateyitans worst fears were confirmed. Ateyo, could I have a quick word with you? said Grace. Ateyitan was shaking really badly now. Neyite who was holding Ateyitans hand felt his shakes. Are you alright son? Youre shaking badly. Has something happening in school today? she asked. Mums always know when their children are in distress. Whilst walking home, all was quiet between the three of them. Ateyo didnt speak neither did Neyite. Ateyitan couldnt stop shaking for fear of what his dad would say. Was he saving his punishment until he got home? He could see the blank expression on his dads face. When they returned to Hometree, Ateyitan went straight to the hammock area worried at what his dad was going to say. Just before the sun set, Ateyo came to see Ateyitan. But there was something wrong with his face - it was smiling. Ateyitan stopped shaking and looked at his dad who was smiling rather proudly. I hear youve been having some trouble at school today said Ateyo calmly. Yes said Ateyitan preparing himself for the worst. Ateyo sat beside his son and placed his arm around him comfortingly. Grace told me about the fight between you and those bullies Ateyo said. Ateyitan felt really ashamed now. Grace has suggested that you be suspended from school until things calm down Ateyo added. Ateyitan bowed his head in shame - his ears did likewise. Ateyo hugged his son warmly. Maybe its best if we take you out of the school altogether. We can home school you again like we did a few years ago said Ateyo. Ateyitan didnt want to be taken from the school. Yes there were bullies there but there was also someone special. Someone who looked out for him - Llyite, daughter of Llyana. Ateyitan remained quiet in his dads arms. He wanted to keep seeing Llyite because she was cute and his type of friend. But whatever his dad says goes. Ateyitan would be home-schooled again. He may never get to see Llyite again but he hoped he would. Three weeks without seeing Ateyitan was driving Llyite insane. She didnt know how much longer she could last without seeing him. She didnt know hed been suspended from the school because of the fight but she sensed that the fight three weeks ago had something to do with it. That evening after she finished school, Llyite snuck off to Ateyitans hammock where he was relaxing after a day of home-schooling. Its much easier that the old school house without the presence bullies but its also harder because Llyite wasnt sat beside him. Ateyitan was just dozing off to sleep when he saw a face hed not seen for the past three weeks - Llyite. Llyite? What are you doing here? asked Ateyitan. Ive come to see you. Youve not been at school recently and I was starting to worry explained Llyite. Ive been suspended from school because of the fight between me and the bullies. My dad home-schools me now but I really miss you said Ateyitan. Sitting next to me in class added Ateyitan hastily trying to cover up his nervousness. Llyite smiled at him. Its OK Ateyitan. I understand. I like you too said Llyite, her smile widening into a grin. As the two lovers continued to talk well into the sun-set, they were unaware that Neyite and Ateyo had been spying on them for the past few hours. Id better get back to my hammock said Llyite. Before Llyite left the hammock area, she kissed Ateyitan ever so tenderly on the cheek and left. Ateyo grinned widley. Shes the one for him he whispered to Neyite. Neyite was also smiling but she was also crying, tears of happiness to see her son receive a kiss from a girl. Ateyitan fell into a love filled sleep. Thoughts of him and Llyite together filled his mind. Down at Hometrees base, Ateyo and Neyite were planning amongst themselves to get Ateyitan and Llyite together. I think wed better ask Llyana for confirmation on the plan whispered Neyite. Ateyo nodded. Ill take Ateyitan back to the school house tomorrow and if I see Llyana, Ill tell her everything said Ateyo. Neyite and Ateyo exchanged a hug. Im glad youre letting Ateyo back to school she said happily. Ateyo smiled. Yes. Well its been three weeks so I think its time we can let him back to the school house. Plus he and Llyite miss each other explained Ateyo. Its only fair that he be given another chance added Neyite hoping things would go better this time. Morning came with a dawn chorus and with Ateyo shaking Ateyitans shoulder. Time for school he said trying to keep his smug look hidden. Ateyitan was slow to wake as he wiped the sleepy dust from his eyes and yawned. Ateyitan ate some sliced peaches and apples from the trees surrounding Hometree and sat on his hammock waiting for his dad to show. Shoudlnt you be at school? asked Ateyo really struggling to hide his smug look. Ateyitan looked confused. I am at school he answered. Ateyo shook his head. Change of plan, youre going back to the school house he said. Ateyitans face grew into a smile as he hugged his dad gratefully. Ateyitan made no hesitation to sprint down to the school house. All the children were still outside playing together when they stopped and noticed Ateyitan walk in. Whats he doing back? I thought they suspended him whispered the children. Ateyitans ears twitched as they picked up the sounds but he kept focused. He walked right up to the apple tree where a beautiful girl sat sadly under it. Miss me said Ateyitan startling the girl. Ateyitan? said Llyite startled. She leapt up and hugged Ateyitan tightly like hed been dead for years and hed just come back to life. Oh my god I cant believe youre back she burbled with tears forming in her eyes. When school started, the bullies were muttering amongst themselves but to their suprise, Ateyitan was focusing on Llyites gentle eyes. The children at the back of the class were still whispering wish child at him but Ateyitan was still focused on Llyite. Their eyes were locked together and their lips closing in. Their lips touched ever so gently before withdrawing. The one thing that did not withdraw was their eyes. The children at the back were all groaning in disgust but Ateyitan and Llyite were so deeply in love with one another that they didnt even hear their groans. At Hometree, Ateyo and Llyana were busy talking about the future for their children. Yes. They will mate when they are older said Llyana happily. Ateyo and Neyite smiled greatfully. Thats great. I cant wait to see their faces when we tell them said Ateyo hugging Neyite warmly. The school day ended with probably the best news Ateyitan and Llyite had ever received. Their parents came to pick them up and while they were walking home, Ateyo told them both the plan for the future. So when youre both 16, you will a mated pair he said feeling so proud of them. Ateyitan and Llyite looked at each other and grinned widely. They were holding hands in between me and Llyana - Neyite held my free hand. Ateyitan and Llyite snuck a secret kiss as we walked back to Hometree. Once back, Ateyitan begged me to go and play with Llyite for a while and I said yes. The two of them played on the clear-cutting where Ateyo and Neyite played a few years ago. The clear-cutting is a wide space where children can play while their parents hunt elsewhere. There are trees growing fruit around the outside of the clear-cutting which children can eact should they get hungry and a river flows in a circle around the clear-cutting from a waterfall a few miles down. Ateyitan chased Llyite, she chaces him back. Eventually, when Ateyitan trips and falls, Llyite falls on top of him, on purpose. The two smile as they take deep breaths. Llyite kissed Ateyitan ever so sweetly and tenderly on the lips which made him take deeper and deeper breaths. I cant wait until we both are mated said Llyite excitedly. Ateyitan was breathing so deeply he found it hard to answer. Me neither he managed to gasp. After about 10 minutes, when their breathing had slowed and their hearts resumed their normal beats, the two of them sat under one of the tall trees eating peaches. The clear-cutting, at close to sunset, looks like a picture perfect painting. As Ateyitan and Llyite ate their peaches, they watched the sunset over the horizon of the clear-cutting burning the sky a steady orange. That sunset is like you Ateyitan said to Llyite whos head was now resting on Ateyitans chest. In what way? she asked. Sunsets are beautiful. I dont think I need to say anymore said Ateyitan ever so smugly. Aaaaawwww said Llyite snuggling herself closer to Ateyitan. As Llyite rested on Ateyitans chest, it got him thinking. In a few years, he would be mated with Llyite and he would like to find a special present for her so she would always remember the mating day. An hour later, the two of them retired to bed which gave Ateyitan to put his plan into action. He was going to search Pandora to find a perfect present for Llyite so shed remember the day they mated. While the rest of Hometree slept, Ateyitan snuck away in the dead of night ready to search all the corners of Pandora to find something super special for a super special mate-to-be. The next morning, Llyite called for Ateyitan to see if he wanted to play at the clear-cutting again only to find he wasnt there. This had her worried. She asked Ateyo and Neyite where hed gone but they didnt know either. The last time anyone saw him was last night after coming home. I will search all the corners of Pandora to find him said Llyite keeping her tears at bay. A pair of eyes opened. Having searched all night for a present for Llyite, Ateyitan found himself waking on a log buried under the ground. Ateyitan had been thinking all night about what he wanted to get Llyite and he finally knew what would be the perfect present for her - a necklace. Ateyitan stretched and yawned before setting back off on his journey to find his mate-to-be a special present. Then a thought occured to him - he was a wish child and could wish for whatever he wanted so he could have just wished for a necklace for Llyite but the reason why he hadnt was because he wanted it to be something he made or found with his bare hands without using his wishing powers. Ateyitan clicked his fingers as he remembered somewhere really tranquill where only the most beautiful things, beside Llyite, could be found - Pandora Falls. Ateyo and Neyite showed him this place when he was younger and maybe, he could find a present for Llyite there. Once he was at Pandora Falls, he began to search all the corners of the tranquill spot to find the perfect things to make Llyites necklace. He continued to search with no luck whatsoever. However, he did find something special - a crying girl. It was Llyite. Llyite? What are you doing here? he asked. This startled Llyite so much that she slapped him across the face. Hey, what was that for? he asked. For leaving and not telling me where you were going sobbed Llyite, her words only just audible through her tears. Ateyitan sighed and opened his arms allowing Llyite to walk into them. She did so without hesitation and the two lovers hugged tightly. You should have told me where you were going. I was so worried she sobbed in Ateyitans arms. I was going out to find you something special to give to you on our mating day. Something to help you remember it forever confessed Ateyitan. Llyite withdrew from the hug ever so slightly so she could see his eyes. You mean you walked acoss Pandora to try and find me a present? asked Llyite shocked at the idea. Yes. Something special, like you said Ateyitan, his ears folded back at the tips showing his sadness. Despite Ateyitan leaving Llyite without telling her anthing, Llyite stood on her tiptoes and kissed Ateyitans lips. As long as I have you, I need no present she said softly. Ateyitan kissed Llyite back. Kissing her lips reminded him of when he and Llyite were sat under the tree eating peaches - her kisses were soft and juicy. Hand in hand, the two star-crossed lovers headed for home. On the way back, Ateyitan felt a fuzz zip up his spine. Behind his back, Llyite had connected her hair brade with his triggering the mating process!
