Matric Results : As an Educator, parent, family member and community activitist, in the past, I looked forward to the publication of the Matric Results in the Newspapers. There was such an excitement in the hood. I cherish the time that I could congratulate all the matriculants, their parents and teachers from Paterson High (my alma mater), South End High and Bethelsdorp High ( where I taught) Theodore Herzl ( alma mater of my sons Dieter and Keenan). Now the Government , in their wisdom , has decided to only publish the ID numbers and exam numbers of succesful candidates. What a damn shame ! What a travesty of achievement and success. How the hell can you congratulate an impersonal ID number.? How can you deprive a candidate the opportunity for the broader community to share in their success.? Why fix something which is not broken? I fail to understand the logic. Cry my beloved country. Cry !
