Maxs special story made the news and really touched a lot of people. We are happy to share this you this update with you. Max was rescued in Feb by the SCOTTSDALE FIRE DEPARTMENT after he was stuck in a canal treading water for over 45 minutes. He was barely hanging on and had he been pulled from the water just a few minutes later he made not have made it. Barely able to breath from complete exhaustion firefighters gave him oxygen in a special mask made for dogs. His paws were all torn up and bloody from the hard concrete sides of the canal when trying to get out. All attempts to find his owner came up short even with all the media about his story. We had a lot of people interested in adopting and chose a really great family for him. Here is an update from his mom. Max is amazing! He is our gentle giant. So demure. So loving. He does have really severe allergies, and has been on Benadryl and steroids, but we are now tapering him off of the steroids as they were starting to affect his liver. His allergies present as red paws (which he chews on) red ears, and extremely dry skin. He also has multiple fatty tumors and hematomas, possibly related to the allergies, but they do not cause him any issues. We just had astroturf installed in the backyard to hopefully help with the allergies. Other than that, he is an extremely happy and healthy boy. It took a while, but we have also (mostly) conquered his fear of water. We love how much Max is loved and being cared for through all his ailments and the extent this wonderful family is going through to give him a quality life (even installing turf to help lower his allergies) Please support us in our mission to rescue and find great homes like this for all our deserving pets. Today is the last day to give to pets in 2014. Please make your tax deductible donation on our website at: LostOurHome.org. THANK YOU!
