Meanwhile, in Ireland, the Anonymous group have hacked SiteServ and stolen their complete database along with the list of all companies working for them. They left the message “Irish people we are with you.” SiteServ is an Irish utility company and the parent company of Sierra. Sierra, as you may know, “won” the contract to install our water meters on behalf of Irish Water. Sierra is owned by billionaire (and crooked as a dog’s hind leg) businessman Denis O’ Brien. You may remember him from the Moriarty Tribunal which revealed that it was “beyond doubt” that Mr O’ Brien’s media company (Esat Communications, for he is also a media mogul and owns just about everything) won it’s licence for mobile phones through payments to the then communications minister Michael Lowry who unduly influenced the bidding process. In spite of an offer from Siemens to install water meters for Irish Water at no cost to the taxpayer (a service they had recently provided for Thames water) our Fine Gael government decided to opt for Sierra/Siteserv instead. What is Fine Gael’s fascination with billionaire Denis O’Brien? They can’t get enough of him! Mr O’Brien was in the news again today on another matter. His company (Sierra) took nine Dublin people to court for protesting at the installation of water meters at their homes. Happily the High Court upheld the peoples’ right to peaceful protest. But an interesting aside to the story was that the barrister for Sierra was Fianna Fáil councillor Jim O Callaghan, who is none other than the brother of RTE presenter Miriam O Callaghan who we saw on Prime Time the other night asking awkward questions to Irish Water (well, in fairness, they were not very awkward.) Fine Gael, Denis O Brien, and the Irish Media, all in the same big cosy bed; sure ye couldn’t make this shit up!
