Meanwhile, this morning at the office we received a letter from the US Embassy: Dear Ms Maria Chin, Chairperson, BERSIH 2.0 I appreciate your letter of August 6 declining an engagement with Senator Bob Corker and expressing the views of BERSIH 2.0 about the violence in Gaza. The Embassy welcomes dialogue with Malaysian organizations with regard to our bilateral relations, regional events, and global issues. We are sorry you could not attend the event and share your views in person, but please note we have passed your letter to the Senator and our colleagues at the State Department in Washington. Regarding the situation in Gaza, the United States has been constant in our efforts to bring the violence to an end. President Obama has engaged directly and Secretary Kerry has traveled to the region and been working around the clock to achieve a ceasefire, and the current effort in Cairo has the strong support of the United States. We are also committed to supporting the United Nations and other humanitarian actors. We have thus far provided nearly $50 million to address emergency humanitarian needs. The United States will continue to work tirelessly with the parties, regional partners, and the international community toward a sustainable peace.
