Measures taken by some of the Paper Mills to ensure Agro Forestry More than a century old Indian paper Industry is developing at fast pace. At present , there are around 850 paper mills scattered in the different part of the country & manufacturing variety of items required by the consumers. On the basis of raw material ,paper industry can be divided into 2 PART ____________________________________________________ a) WOOD (CONTAINS FIBERS FROM WOODS ) b) AGRICULTURAL RESIDUE (FIBERS FROM STRAW,GRASS & PLANTS) With rising paper demand in the coming years, one of the major factors restricting the growth of wood based industry is feared to be the acute shortage & high cost of wood based raw materials ,though few Pioneer group of companies have taken major steps to conserve forestry. For instance – - J K PAPER industry has its farm forestry programme .It has planted over 100,000 hectares in 6 states. &It is also encouraging social farm forestry, which enable the company to provide livelihood & income opportunities to a large no. of farmers & tribal people. It has also helped to get carbon credits & access the bio carbon fund of the Word Bank. The grant have been distributed to over 1400 small & marginal farmers .all this really means that few of the paper mills are working hard to generate the required green cover rather than destroying it. - ITC has also been working on crediting sustainable raw material sources for pulp & paper industry through Farm & social forestry scheme .It is emphasizing on making environment friendly mills. - Rainbow Paper industry is also putting various efforts to make the environment sustainable like it has consume the sludge within its own premises .I has also installed fiber sheet plant to process the recovered fibers completely within its premises. According to Naini Group economic growth & development can be achieved by focusing on sustainability of environment. It was pioneer to established “Soda Recovery Plant” in an agro based craft paper mill in 2003. So,It can be concluded that sustained wood supply & plantation both are very significant in long run & it is needed that all our paper mills of the country should must adopt, follow & encourage forestation & industrial plantation.
