Meet Watoni, our resident barn owl. Watoni is not a native - TopicsExpress

Meet Watoni, our resident barn owl. Watoni is not a native North Carolinian, like so many of our residents, she was shot in the eye as a brancher (the stage between nestling and fledgling for raptors) in the state of Texas. One thing that raptors absolutely need is really, really good depth perception, since they dive at their food on the ground and Watoni does not have this. Watoni came to us from the Texas State Aquarium at 4 months of age in August of 2008 and has been helping us to educate people around the Triangle ever since that day. Over time, the issue caused by the shot to her eye has deteriorated. At some point, our vet tells us that the eye will need to be removed. We watch Watoni very closely to be sure she is comfortable at all times. Watoni is definitely our most photographed bird, as I’m sure you can see here, she takes wonderful photos. As stunning as she is, of course my plan was that I would be her favored human, of course, I was not the human she chose, our daughter was and still is, her very favorite human of all times. Watoni will work well with any of us, but there is a special bond between her and Kasha that is evident to anybody who sees them together. Have a beautiful day all!
