Mesa Altar / Altar Table FILIPINO ca. 1850, Batangas Province Balayong Wood A Philippine colonial mesa altar table exhibiting both Chines and Spanish design elements. The table is made in the SAKANG style with a single drawer cabinet standing on straight, splayed legs. The wide side flanges are carved in a terminating scalloped pattern. The frontal apron is minimal. The table top is a mitered frame with a floating central panel. Hardware not original. Dimensions: 43 L x 26D x 33 H Notice that this version of a Sakang mesa altar is quite different and distinct from the earlier prototypes. The earlier prototypes exhibited marked rustic Chinese features while this example has a more Europeanized look and feel.
