Miami Heat ‘inquiring’ about Gilas Pilipinas naturalized star Andray Blatche, says report Naturalized Filipino center Andray Blatche could just find a new NBA club after his stint with the Philippine national men’s basketball team in the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reported on Tuesday that the Miami Heat are interested in Blatche, who has been putting up good numbers for Gilas Pilipinas. “The Heat also has inquired about 6-11 free agent center Andray Blatche, who has a home here,” Jackson wrote. After the departure of superstar LeBron James, the Heat are now rebuilding their roster around Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, who opted to stay in Miami after their crushing loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA finals this year. The Heat have also signed Luol Deng, Danny Granger, Josh McRoberts and Shannon Brown as they try to remain competitive in the Eastern Conference. Jackson reported that the Heat are looking for another backup big man, and Blatche could be a fit. Coming off a two-year stint with the Brooklyn Nets, he is averaging 22 points and 13.8 rebounds for Gilas Pilipinas in the World Cup. But Blatche’s numbers weren’t enough to keep the Filipinos from an early exit in the tournament as they dropped four straight games against Croatia, Greece, Argentina and Puerto Rico to bow out of contention early. Apart from Blatche, the Heat are also reportedly looking at the possibility of signing Nazr Mohammed and Emeka Okafor to fill the backup center role.
