Mint is an easy herb to grow and a delicious addition to many - TopicsExpress

Mint is an easy herb to grow and a delicious addition to many dishes and drinks. This rampant grower is not, however, a well-behaved garden neighbor. The best way to keep mint in check is to plant it in its own space with some type of barrier that will keep it from spreading. You can plant it in a 5 gallon plastic pail with drainage holes drilled in the bottom; sink the pot into the soil, leaving several inches sticking up above ground to prevent runners from rooting outside the pot. Or sink metal barriers into the soil around the bed to a depth of 12 inches, leaving a few inches above ground. Growing mint in a large container above-ground is probably the easiest approach, but you may need to insulate around the pot or sink it into the ground before the ground freezes to get a container-grown plant through the winter in cold climates.
