Model, clothing designer and actress Virginia Rappe was born on this day--July 7th, 1891. She co-starred opposite Harold Lockwood in Paradise Garden (1917) and Rudolph Valentino in An Adventuress (1920). Rappe was also dubbed The Best Dressed Girl in the Movies for her fashion sense. She died in 1921 several days after attending a party thrown by Roscoe Arbuckle at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. He was acquitted after three trials. She was vilified in the press and sadly lies and rumors about her persist to this day. The new book Room 1219 by Greg Merritt has finally set the record straight. Rappe was romantically involved with silent comedy director Henry Lehrman who paid for her burial at Hollywood Memorial Park (now Hollywood Forever). He requested burial next to her when he died 25 years later in 1946.
