Moment for Meditation- October 29, 2014 “Gap Kids” When you find yourself in the position of being the “Go To” person in a group or organization, you soon find that the title comes with more than you expected. You signed on as the person who can set appointments, point folks in the right direction; garner the supplies needed for projects and the like. You didn’t sign on as the person to go to when favors are needed from another whose assignment is above yours. It’s amazing how people believe that you can have the conversations that they can’t; when they think that you will not incur the wrath that they won’t; when they think that you know all about the situation and can convey it properly… simply amazing. Did I mention that this practice was two sided? Not only did the people develop a natural procession of coming to me to face their music, the great and powerful (You know his name) also developed a natural procession of coming to me to play the music for the people (didn’t want to hurt their feelings, he’d say). I should have coined my own response to this, “amaz’ain’t” as I was determined that this was not going to keep happening. My head was not going to be the one that always got chopped off for everyone else. So, as my head rolled across the floor on many occasions, I resigned myself to the fact that there was something greater than this in the making; the Act and the Prayer of Intercession. Jesus, the great Intercessor, stands before God the Father, daily pleading our case to continue into eternal life. He interceded for us on the Cross when He died so we might live, because we did not have the power, knowledge, strength, or anything for that matter, to free ourselves from sin. We have been given, through the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, to intercede for others. Those who either don’t know that they need someone to speak for them, those who are too afraid to speak for themselves, those who are too weak to speak for themselves, and those who don’t know who to speak to need an advocate who is willing to go to bat for them. The Act of intercession lies very close to the judgment we run away from. We have developed in our minds that whenever we see something wrong in the life of another and speak on it, we are judging. The truth is that what we see is what the Holy Spirit is directing us to pray for. It our choice to gossip and pass judgment on the situation, instead of praying to God about it. In forfeiting our responsibility to pray, we often “mis-see” what is in front of us. We jump to conclusions about the thing and miss the highly placed mark that God wants us to reach for. [Just ask that roaring lion with the thorn in his paw that only the little kid saw]. So then, the act of intercession requires us to look at and understand what the Holy Spirit is showing us, then pray as He directs us to pray. The power of intercession then, is to praise God in advance for His move on the person, not the situation, but the person who is in need of Him. When, for reasons we don’t always know, there is a break in communications or a shortage of communications, we who are called to intercede, often refer to ourselves as “Standing in the Gap”. The Gap is not a bad place, it is simply a place that needs to be filled, preferably by someone who loves God and is willing to carry a prayer to God on behalf of another and receive God’s response and instruction concerning the person [You’ve heard of prophesying, yes?]. To stand in the Gap, one must be prepared for the work to be done there. One cannot intercede for others simply because he feels like it; he must be sent into the Gap by the Holy Spirit who will supply the prayer for him. To stay in the Gap, one must not abandon the instructions he received from the Holy Ghost. This is not the place to ‘do it my way’. Intercession is not a fad or tool to show ourselves strong and mighty. If you are not called, it is best not to go, for this a place of vulnerability and inability. We ourselves are laid open and subject to search and seizure [for whatever lies in us that is displeasing to God will be removed also]. Not to instill fear in future intercessors, know that God Anoints People to do the work of intercession. Grace is Applied to the Person before he goes forth in prayer. God is Always Present when you are in prayer so fear of an enemy attack is not your worry. If there is anything you need to deal with, know that Grace will Annihilate your Problems. You need not fear reporting what the Lord says in the prayer for He will give you Grace to Administer with Power. When you are invited to intercede for God’s people, go in Gratefulness, go in Authority, go in Peace.
