Monday (January 5) My Reflection “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light” Scripture: Matthew 4:12-17,23-25 What we have received from God on that day more than two thousand years ago. . Our gifts should direct our thoughts to Christ and when we pass on this gift to others, we show that all human beings are part of this all-surrounding, all-surpassing love of God. We should seek to share with others first because we love God with all our hearts, souls and minds. Thats the greatest commandment, and this kind of love makes itself evident by actions. We can perhaps do so by our example as well as our words, and both our example and our words match... and are what Jesus wants them to be. To exist and live as followers of Christ is to show and share His love to others. Christians imperfection should never be used as an excuse to do nothing and it wont be if the Christian is genuinely pressing on toward perfection. Whether our gifts were bestowed by the Lord miraculously (as with Timothy) or naturally, it is still a gift God has given and must not be neglected. We do not have to be someone else. We need to be the best we can be at using what God has blessed us with. Paul says “There was a time when you were darkness, but now you are the light in the Lord” (Ephesians 5:8). You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put in under a bowl. Instead they put in on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven (Matt. 5:14-16). If we persevere in these things, for as we do this we will ensure salvation both for ourselves and for those who hear us. (1 Timothy 4:16b).
