More Obamacare success. What you arent seeing touted by the administration is the subsidy cliff. This is where a family is just outside the subsidy threshold and must pay the full price and with a higher deductible, approximately 2-3 million families will face this. This means that they have to pay a higher percentage of their income for insurance plans, possibly around 10-15%. There is also the family trap where one spouse has employer based coverage, but the other does not leaving part of the family uninsured. This will also effect 2-3 million families out there. There is also the Bronze Trap where people buy the low cost Bronze plan with the high deductible. Remember the words of President Obama With the ACA families will no longer have to worry about going bankrupt over a medical bill. Well, thats not true because most of the lower income earners cant afford the $6000 or higher deductible that comes with their Bronze plan even though they may pay less for the actual plans monthly rate. Insurance doesnt kick in until they pay the $6000 deductible. So, guess what that means? That means those low income families still go bankrupt even though they paid their premiums. Talk about getting what you paid for! Then there is the problem with a very narrow network. This is already starting to be seen as families take their children to be seen by their doctor only to find out that their doctor is not in their network. For places this is exacerbated by only having one childrens hospital in the area that the people live. So, now not only do they have higher insurance expenses when you calcuate in their deductible, they now incur higher tavel expenses to take their kid to an in network doctor. The alternative is pay for an out of network doctor which defeats the entire purpose of having the insurance in the first place. Remember President Obama saying all those plans that were cancelled were just junk plans. He said, people will be paying a little more for better insurance.
