More reflections on Audies/APAC week: Tantor threw a great party! I managed to get a couple of laughs from the lectern as I presented two awards (Nonfiction and Biography/Memoir) at the Audie Awards ceremony. Libba Bray was a hard act to follow, but she definitely had the audience in a laughing frame of mind. And I was glad to be able to announce Simon Vances first win of the evening (he wound up with two). I went 0 for 3 myself, but the competition was fierce and I couldnt feel too bad - especially after a consolatory scotch at the bar and when I considered that I was in the same boat of losers as Meryl Streep, Lyle Lovett, and Jake Gyllenhaal... And speaking of celebrity narrators - how great that Katy Kellgren beat out every celeb nominee for Best Solo Narration (Female). A terrific moment for all of us workaday professional narrators! Loved Joe Barretts pro-union comments from the stage as well. Spot on and - I thought - diplomatically delivered. Finally, I was pleased to be able to finish recording a few loose ends in time to join Karen White and Khristine Hvams blogger brunch. A worthy event and nice opportunity to connect (or reconnect) with some of the top audiobook bloggers from around the country who were in town for the Book Expo America, not to mention more time with narrator pals. Im a lucky fellow. Now Im looking forward to making a start on a great new thriller... and then detaching from the grid for a couple of weeks while my lovely wife and I decompress in the Mexican heat!
