More than twice as many women are given the diagnosis of major depression than men, and their depression is usually more complicated. As a depressed woman, in addition to changes in mood, your depression is more likely to affect your sense of self, your feelings about your body, and your ability to support and nurture others. You are more vulnerable to being depressed during times of natural hormonal fluctuations such as your period. Your depression can affect your desire to have children, your physical and emotional health during and after pregnancy. Unfortunately, our we currently provide few opportunities for women to extend and receive support from other depressed women who have already passed through these challenges.
