Morning cup of Joe: pages from Pastors devotional Todays topic: righteousness Leviticus 8:7-9 ”And he put upon the coat, and girded him with the girdle, and clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod upon him, and he girded him with the beautifully woven girdle of the ephod, and bound it unto him therewith. And he put the breastplate upon him; also he put in the breastplate the Urim and Thummim. And he put the miter upon his head; also upon the miter even infront, did he put the golden plate, the holy crown, as the Lord commanded Moses.” Under the law of Moses the priests were washed with pure water, then they put on special garments for the consecration. Christians must always be clothed in God’s righteousness. According to Ephesians 6 it is an essential part of Gods armor for the believer. That piece of armor is essential if we are to represent the Lord effectively and consistently. We, as Christians, must represent the Lord, who is the righteous King. No matter where our service to God brings us or what methodology is used to promote God’s kingdom, we must always be mindful to be arrayed in His fine linens of righteousness and true holiness (see Revelation 19:8). Righteousness is a God-given position that He gives to His beloved upon acceptance of His dear son, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He hath made him, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” We carry the righteousness of Christ and not our own. Man’s righteousness falls far short of God’s standard of righteousness. Isaiah 64:6 brings this truth out well, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind have taken us away.” Christians must be clothed in God’s righteousness continuously. We must stand for what Christ stands for, we must believe as Christ believes and think as Christ thinks. The fruits of righteousness are wonderful in our lives, they consist of peace, quietness, and assurance. Isaiah 32:17 “And the work of righteousness, shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness, quietness, and assurance forever.” The garments the priest wore, were to be an expression that they were God’s choice servants, ministers of the altar and His representatives. The clothes spoke of the righteousness of the priests before God and man. Because of the sacrifice of Jesus, the blood He shed and the life He has given to us, we need to understand that He has also robed us in His righteousness. Let us be His representatives and ambassadors in a sinful world that we live in and allow the world to see the righteousness of Jesus through our lives.
