Morning paper--last sentence of Margaret Riests column, quoting Lanny Boswell, Schl Board, LPS costs per student are a whopping $6 [yes!] more per year 2013 than they were in 2004, including inflation. AND, in that same time HS grad rates are up 76% to 87% (gettin there!!! :-) ), but most surprisingly, sorry to say :-( , POVERTY LEVELS OF STUDENTS UP FROM 29% TO 44%--A 34% INCREASE. There were 600 children eligible for LPS pre-school last spring--but no spaces for them--equal to TWO Elementary Schools!!! There is nothing conservative about wasting the vast human resources of these small human beings to save a few measley dollars for people who do not live in poverty (and whose perks, benefits and subsidies are not called welfare or entitlements!)--there is a lot of stoopid, though! A stitch in time, saves nine. Which is the true savings: pre-school ($9125 per yr) vs prison ($35,000 per yr) or a living wage of $11-15 per hr., or $7.25 per hr? Waste not, want not--literate, competent citizen-workers-voters whose 40 hours of work per week covers all their basic needs vs. less-literate people who are still smart enough to know that if work doesnt pay, there are other ways to get money or whose health was not attended to and now they cant work and healthcare costs skyrocket, etc., etc, etc. Im just sayin. . . . .
